Enrique Santos

Bio in English:

Enrique Santos is the Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of iHeartLatino. He heads iHeartmedia’s Latin direction and strategy. His daily signature morning show is syndicated nationally via Premiere Networks and airs live from iHeart’s Miami station TÚ 94.9.

Born to Cuban parents in Chicago, Illinois, Santos gravitates fluidly between the Hispanic and mainstream American radio landscapes. His bilingual broadcasts are a crossover hit combining humor, social satire, and political commentary to bridge the cultural and generational divide of a diverse cosmopolitan audience. Santos has built an enthusiastic following with a comedic repertoire consisting of phone pranks, interviews and a trademark form of fresh and unique interaction amongst celebrities. Enrique’s extravagant radio persona has made him one of the most popular Hispanic radio hosts in America and earned him unprecedented access to some of the biggest names in pop culture.

No matter how busy his schedule, Santos has never lost his community ties and continues volunteering as a Reserve Police officer for The City of Miami Police Department.

The winner of the 2017 iHeartRadio “Latin Personality of The Year” Award is part of the exclusive roster of Marc Anthony’s talent agency MAGNUS Media. In 2015, Santos was named National/Syndicated Radio Personality of the Year by Radio Ink and was awarded the prestigious Medallas de Cortez Medal. In 2014, Santos was also named “My Favorite DJ” at Univision’s Premios Juventud. He is frequently invited to present and host some of the top award ceremonies of the music industry including ASCAP Latin Music Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards, iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina and on the red carpet at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Ivy Queen (Puerto Rico)

The undisputed queen of reggaeton and a trailblazer for women in a genre often dominated by men, Puerto Rican performer and composer Ivy Queen has been one of the strongest and most important figures in the Latin urban genre for over 20 years. Her ascend to stardom began when she was 18-years-old, as she was forced to carve a space for her strident voice to be heard. Her lyrics condemn violence against women, demand respect, and empower anyone who’s ever felt oppressed. Songs like “Quiero Bailar,” “Que Lloren,” and “Cuéntale” have become anthems for an entire generation of young women who found an idol in the fearless artist. Ivy has been honored with several recognitions including multiple Latin Billboard Awards, a Premio Lo Nuestro for Urban Album of the Year, a special honor at Premios Juventud (Diva Award), 3 Latin GRAMMY® nominations and multiple BMI awards for her iconic hits.

Willie Colón (Puerto Rico)

Willie Colón is a legendary trombonist, composer, bandleader, arranger, producer, singer, actor, and social activist who helped to popularize salsa music in the 1970s. During his 50 years in the music business, his achievements have been internationally recognized with numerous awards worldwide including, the Latin GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the Lunas Del Auditorio Award and many others. As a songwriter he has been responsible for evergreen Latin hits among them, “Aguanile,” “Ah, Ah O No,” “Abuelita,” “La Murga,” “El Todopoderoso,” “El Malo,” “Ghana E,” “Juancito,” “No Me Llores Mas,” “Pan y Agua,” “Si La Ves,“ “Sin Poderte Hablar,” “Todo Tiene Su Final,” “Juana Peña,” “Calle Luna, Calle Sol,” “Che, Che, Cole,” “El Dia De Suerte.” Colón has had numerous hits as a solo artist including the Gold and Platinum Latin albums ‘Solo’ and ‘Fantasmas,’ which included hits like “Sin Poderte Hablar,” and the mega-hit “El Gran Varón.” He has had various collaborations throughout his career, including a number of hit albums with The Queen of Latin Music, Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz, which included the international hits “Usted Abusó,” and “Dos Jueyes” during the 70’s and 80’s. In 1978 after a number of successful albums together, singer-songwriter Rubén Blades collaborated with Colón in their album ‘Siembra’ (which became one of the most popular and biggest selling albums in the salsa genre) and “Tras La Tormenta” (1995); in the 70’s he had a featured project with Fania legends, Hector LaVoe & Yomo Toro in his perennial production ‘Asalto Navideño’ (Vol I and II); versatile Venezuelan vocalist Soledad Bravo; salsa star Ismael Miranda which included “No Me Digan Que Es Muy Tarde Ya” (1980); Puerto Rican singer Sophy in her production “Salsa en New York” (1983); and rock new wave musician David Byrne in the album ‘Rei Momo’ (1989).

Michael Sullivan (Brazil)

Legendary Brazilian composer, singer, musician, and producer Michael Sullivan is considered the most prolific and successful Brazilian songwriter of our time, with more than 2000 recorded songs by Brazilian, Hispanic and Global artists, released in 60 markets in Latin and North Americas, Europe, Asia and Middle East regions. Throughout his incredible career, Sullivan has performed in successful groups and as a solo artist in multiple genres from ballads to gospel and has sold 60 million albums and received 60 Diamond, 270 Platinum and 550 Gold Awards. Portuguese-language songs such as “Me Dê Motivo” and “Um Dia De Domingo” are two of his most acclaimed compositions among a long list of other popular hits. Celebrated Argentine singer and composer Chico Novarro has had a prolific career spanning 60 years from his early days when he began writing tangos to an extensive discography of nearly 30 original albums and 600 songs. Among his most prominent compositions is the bolero “Algo Contigo,” which has been recorded by notable artists in a variety of genres such as Vicentico, Rosario, Andrés Calamaro, Mariachi Vargas, Fidel Rueda. Armando Larrinaga (Cuba)

Born in Havana, Cuban composer, arranger, and pianist Armando Larrinaga started his career performing across the island as part of multiple musical groups and quartets during the 1960s and 1970s. As a composer he is best known for his songs “Me Estoy Enamorando,” “Vida,” and “Un Millón de Rosas,” made famous by La Mafia in the 90’s. Most recently, Marc Anthony recorded “Vida” for his 2010 album “Iconos.” Other voices that have recorded his songs are: Jerry Rivera, José Feliciano, Cristian Castro, Rocío Durcal, Pedro Fernandez, etc. He has been bestowed with multiple ASCAP Awards, and other accolades such as Premio Lo Nuestro and Latin Billboard. Larrinaga has also been recognized by the Grammy Academy for his contribution on multiple award-winning artists.

Luciano Luna

Premio Conquistador / Conqueror Award

Born in Guamúchil, Sinaloa, Luciano Luna has come to define the modern Regional Mexican romantic song with his plethora of banda, norteño and ranchera hits over the past 13 years.

Studying information technology in college, he was an unlikely future superstar. But in 2006 he got his first big break when Banda El Recodo recorded his song “Tus Palabras.” This legendary group went on to enjoy massive airplay with other compositions of his, such as “Entonces Qué Somos” and “La Mejor De Todas.”

He co-wrote Gerardo Ortíz’s Number One breakup lament “¿Por Qué Terminamos?”.

Major artists who have recorded his songs to great success include Pedro Fernández, Calibre 50, Julión Álvarez, Banda Los Recoditos, Banda MS and 3BallMTY among many others.

With La Séptima Banda, Luna made a solid incursion into recording and production, in addition to writing the group’s 2017 chart-topper “Yo Sí Me Enamoré.” He has also produced such acclaimed vocalists as Lucero, Chiquis Rivera and Ninel Conde.

He was named SESAC Latina Songwriter of the Year for four consecutive years from 2014 to 2017. Among the prestigious award nominations he has received are: Billboard Latin Music Awards Songwriter of the Year, 2014, 2015, 2017; monitorLATINO Songwriter of the Year, 2013; and Bandamax Songwriter of the Year, 2014.

Pitbull

Born Armando Christian Pérez, the man better known as Pitbull is an entertainer, ambassador of change and entrepreneur that has helped define a generation through his voice and actions. His career began in 2001 in his hometown of Miami, reaching the international stage soon after with hits like “Time of Our Lives” and “Give Me Everything”, in the process immortalizing his signature phrase Dale! – one that encapsulates Pitbull’s belief that anything is possible. In 2009 the keys to the City of Miami were bestowed on him for entrenching his image at the forefront of cultural, social, political and popular conversations, bringing his brand of inspiration, influence and impact worldwide.

Pitbull’s many humanitarian highlights include his support to launch Sports Leadership Arts and Management (SLAM!) in 2013 as a tuition-free public charter option for middle and high school students. It launched in Little Havana and has since spread to 10 schools across the country, boasting a 100% graduation rate and a 97% rate of graduates who go onto college – and having addressed the United Nations General Assembly in recognition of World Water Day on behalf of Clean Water Here, an organization with a mission to improve the World’s access to sustainable safe drinking water.

Born in Puerto Rico, the renowned acoustic-pop singer-songwriter Kany García is a unique and unmistakable talent whose expressive performances, vivid wordplay and perceptive lyrics have made her the voice of young women across Latin America and the United States. After studying music at a professional level, Kany García released her first album Cualquier Día (Any Day, 2007) on Sony Music Latin. It was the most acclaimed debut of the year, earning her two Latin GRAMMYs® – Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album. With hits such as “Hoy Ya Me Voy” (Today I Leave), “Esta Soledad” (This Loneliness) and “Amigo en el Baño” (Bathroom Buddy), this record was hailed by a new generation of music lovers. Her Soy Yo album (It’s Me, 2018), received four Latin GRAMMY® nominations and was named one of the 50 Best Albums of 2018 So Far – among all genres – by Billboard magazine.

Kany kicked off 2019 on the right foot with her February 2 sold-out concert at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, where she was joined by such guest artists as Natti Natasha, Pedro Capó, Residente, and Tommy Torres. The concert also marked Kany and Tommy’s live debut of “Quédate” (Stay), the first single from her sixth studio album Contra El Viento, released this year.

Her most recent album also has collaborations with Natalia LaFourcade and Fito Paez and was named once again one of the 50 Best Albums of 2019 So Far – among all genres – by Billboard magazine.

Jesús López has consistently been at the forefront of the industry transformation.  He was part of the counter-cultural current known as “Movida Madrileña” in the early 80’s, originating the movement known as “Rock en Español”; a talent for predicting trends in the Latin music industry led him to create the alternative rock label Culebra, stepping-stone for the Spanish rock movement that later raged throughout Latin America and the U.S.  In the year 2000 he was responsible of the successful campaign “El Flamenco is Universal” with a special tribute to Camarón and Paco de Lucía.  In 2005, when Reggaeton was still considered a Puerto Rican “underground” genre, under López’s leadership Universal Music became the first major record company to launch a Reggaeton label, Machete Music.  Within the first five years following its establishment, Machete had 27 top ten albums on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, eleven of those being number one, and producing worldwide hits such as “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee and “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar, among others.  In 2007 Universal Music Latin America created GTS (Global Talent Services), an innovative division exclusively focused in growing and developing Artist Services related business, including management, co-management and live events.  Since then, GTS has opened 12 offices in the region and has developed an impressive roster of 145 artists in management and co-management. Dan Warner, was a guitarist, producer, engineer, and songwriter. A GRAMMY winner, five-time Latin GRAMMY winner, and Emmy winner. He has served as musical director for the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year as well as many events for The Recording Academy, ASCAP and more. His recording credits include artists such as Michael Jackson, Pink, Madonna, Timbaland, Barbra Streisand, Lil Wayne, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Chris Cornell, Kelly Clarkson, Ricky Martin, Ziggy Marley, Gloria Estefan, and Barry Gibb.

His success as a studio musician led to may artists seeking him out as a producer as well which led to his nomination for Producer Of The Year for the 14th Latin GRAMMY Awards… His producing credits include Ricardo Arjona, Tommy Torres, Luis Fonsi, Ednita Nazario, Gaby Moreno, and others.

Many of these artists also asked Dan to be a part of the writing process. His catalog included songs like “Grace Kelly” from UK artist Mika and “I’m F@*&ing Matt Damon” from comedian Sarah Silverman for which Dan was awarded an Emmy award.

In addition to his recording, producing and writing credits he also spent time on stage with artists such as Barry Gibb, Julio Iglesias, Christian Castro, and many others.

José José (1948 – 2019)

Known throughout the world as “El Príncipe de la Canción” or “The Prince of Song”, José José is an award-winning singer and actor whose career has spanned over four decades, during which he has sold millions upon millions of albums. Born José Rómulo Sosa Ortíz, he learned to play guitar in his teens and started participating in festivals and contests around Mexico City. “Nave del Olvido” became his first hit in 1969, and he won the OTI festival a year later with a song titled “El Triste.” He then climbed the most important Latin charts with “De Pueblo en Pueblo, and in the 70’s with “Hasta Que Vuelvas”, “Déjame Conocerte”, ”Sentimientos” and the 1977 smash hit “Gavilan o Paloma” among many others.

In the early 80’s José José released “Secretos”, produced by Manuel Alejandro, and sold over 4 million copies. “Reflexiones” followed in 1984. At this point his music had spread around the world to most Spanish speaking audiences, compiling a list of collaborations including Paco Ortiz, Alfredo Benitez, Roberto Livi, Paul Anka, Juan Gabriel, Rafael Perez Botija, Yanni and his own daughter Sara among many more. For the next decades José José would release several solo and collaboration albums including a three album collection titled Príncipe con Trio with Los Tres Caballeros after a vocal condition that towards the end of his career affected his singing and speaking abilities. Today José José is recognized internationally as one of the most important figures of Latin music history.

His journey in film and TV acting include “Sueño de Amor”, “La Carrera del Millón”, “Perdóname Todo”, “Sueño” and as Lety’s dad in “La Fea Más Bella” where he won TV & Novela’s award from Best Supporting Actor In 2007. The year prior he was a vocal coach in Televisa’s “Cantando por un Sueño”.

José José passed on September 28 of 2019. His legacy is forever immortalized in his works and in the hearts of audiences of all ages across the world.

Nestor Casonu

Nestor E. Casonu, President of Kobalt Music Latin America has been a leader and pioneer of the industry in the region for a span of 40 years. He is known for playing a key role in the innovation and creation of the administrative structure of licensing and distribution of digital royalties in Latin America.

Nestor Casonu began his career in Music at CBS Argentina in 1978 (today Sony Music), eventually rising through the ranks to become Commercial Director heading the Marketing, Promotion, and Sales departments. He played a key role in developing the careers of acts such as Soda Stereo, Pimpinela, and Maria Marta Serra Lima. In 1986 he founded Leader Music, a successful independent record company in Argentina, which till this day is still very active in the market. Casonu later began producing events and large scale music festivals together with local radio stations Radio Mitre and FM 100, recreating the carnival dances of Argentina.

In 1992, he joined EMI Music Publishing as Managing Director for the territory of Argentina eventually taking on the role of Regional Director in 1997. During his tenure at EMI Music Publishing, he also held the Presidency of FLADEM (Federation of Latin American Music Publishers). Casonu relocated to Miami in 2000 to open the regional office for EMI Music Publishing. As Regional Director, he supervised operations across all of Latin America as well as the US Latin market, successfully restructuring the region. Under his leadership, EMI Music Publishing signed Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Ricky Martin, Ricardo Montaner, Soda Stereo, Descemer Bueno, Luny Tunes, Vico C., Carlos Baute, Fonseca, y Belinda, as well as those of multimedia conglomerates Televisa and RGB.

Casonu played a critical role in resolving an enormous dispute of over 10 years between the publishers and record companies in Brazil. At the same time, he was successful in resolving another very important dispute in Mexico between SACM and the publishers. He also led the creation of the 3 one-stop-shop organizations, (Mexico – EMMACSACM, Brazil – UBEM, and the rest of the region – LatinAutor) which facilitated the launch of iTunes in Latin America at the end of 2011 paving the way for all digital distribution platforms. EMI Music Publishing Latin America was named “Top Latin Songs Publishing Corporation” in Billboard’s 2010 Year-End of Edition.

In June of that year, Casonu assumed the helm of both the recorded-music and publishing sides of the major’s operations as CEO rolling out for the first time ever a Global Rights Management Model in the world, combining both structures in the region. Despite the fact that the project’s life was cut short due to the separate sale of the companies in 2012, he was able to demonstrate that the model was not only possible but also highly successful.

In July of 2014, independent music publisher and music services company Kobalt Music Group hired Casonu to work closely with upper management in developing a plan to expand their operations into Latin America and identify opportunities to maximize the income and exploitation of rights on behalf of Kobalt clients around the world. Casonu has established Kobalt’s direct relationship with all of the local Societies in the region, as well as the membership for Kobalt and its global digital collection society AMRA to the region’s digital LatinAutor One-Stop-Shop. In 2016 Casonu was named President of Kobalt Music Latin America, adding the expansion of the divisions of AWAL and Neighboring Rights in the region. Under his leadership, the creative team in Miami was able to curate an impressive and extensive roster, adding significant artists to Kobalt’s developing Latin roster in a short period of time. Such roster includes Enrique Iglesias, Carlos Vives, Ozuna, Anuel AA, Ruben Blades, Dj Luian, Karol G, Jesse y Joy, Prince Royce, Natti Natasha, Arcangel, Los Evojedis, Scott Summers, Ender Thomas, Brytiago, Daniel Santacruz, and producers Michael Masis and Ovy on the Drums.

Nestor E. Casonu, Presidente de Kobalt Music Latin America, ha sido un líder y pionero de la industria en la región durante 40 años. Es conocido por desempeñar un papel clave en la innovación y la creación de la estructura administrativa de licencias y distribución de regalías digitales en América Latina.

Néstor Casonu comenzó su carrera en la Música en CBS Argentina (hoy Sony Music) en 1978, pasó por diferentes posiciones hasta convertirse en Director Comercial a cargo de los departamentos de Marketing, Promoción y Ventas. Desempeñó un papel clave en el desarrollo de carreras Artistas como Soda Stereo, Pimpinela y Maria Marta Serra Lima. En 1986 fundó Leader Music, una exitosa compañía discográfica independiente en Argentina, que hasta el día de hoy sigue operando en el mercado. En 1990 Casonu comenzó a producir eventos y festivales de música a gran escala en asociación con Radio Mitre y FM 100, recreando los bailes de carnaval de Argentina.

En 1992 se incorporó a EMI Music Publishing como Director General en Argentina y asumió el cargo de Director Regional en 1997. Durante su mandato en EMI Music Publishing también asumió la Presidencia de FLADEM (Federación Latinoamericana de Editores de Música). Casonu se trasladó a Miami en el año 2000 para abrir la oficina regional de EMI Music Publishing. Como Director Regional, supervisó las operaciones en América Latina, así como el mercado latino de los EE.UU., donde efectuó una importante reestructuración de la región. También es de destacar las alianzas de explotación y administración con los conglomerados de multimedia Televisa de México y RGB de Argentina.

Casonu desempeñó un papel crítico en la resolución de una gran disputa judicial de más de 10 años entre las Compañías Editoriales y las Discográficas de Brasil. Al mismo tiempo, logró resolver otra disputa muy importante en México entre SACM y las editoriales. También lideró la creación de las 3 organizaciones de Ventanilla Única para la Distribución de Regalías (México – EMMACSACM; Brasil – UBEM; y el resto de la región – LatinAutor), lo que facilitó el lanzamiento de iTunes en América Latina a finales de 2011 allanando el camino para todas las plataformas de distribución digital. Bajo su liderazgo, EMI Music Publishing fue nombrada “Top Latin Songs Publishing Corporation” en el 2010 por la revista Billboard.

En junio de ese año, Casonu asumió el timón de las operaciones de las dos ramas del grupo EMI, la compañía Discográfica y la Editorial como Presidente Regional lanzando por primera vez este modelo de negocios conjunto en el mundo, combinando ambas estructuras en la región. A pesar de que la vida del proyecto fue corta debido a la venta separada de las empresas en el 2012, el modelo fue capaz de demostrar que no sólo era posible, sino también, eficiente y muy exitoso.

En julio de 2014, Kobalt contrató a Casonu, para desarrollar y expandir sus operaciones en América Latina. Casonu ha logrado establecer la relación directa de Kobalt Music Publishing con todas las Sociedades de Autores y Compositores de la región, así como la afiliación de Kobalt a la Ventanilla Única de administración de derechos digitales conformada por Editores y Sociedades nucleadas en LatinAutor. En 2016 Casonu fue nombrado Presidente de Kobalt Music Latin America, agregando bajo su responsabilidad la expansión de las divisiones de Distribución Digital AWAL y de Derechos Conexos en la región. “Suavemente” (English: “Smoothly”) is a song recorded and composed by Puerto Rican-American Elvis Crespo on his first solo album, Suavemente, which followed his departure from Grupo Manía. Released as the lead single, “Suavemente” reached number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks on May 16, 1998, and remained atop the chart for six weeks. Crespo re-recorded it with Spanglish lyrics. The song also hit the Billboard Hot 100 as well as received a Premios Lo Nuestro award and two Latin Billboard Music Awards the following year. The song has been covered by several artists, many of whom also charted.
